Recherche

Zoological groups
Platyhelminthes, Nematodes.
Other groups of fish parasites.

Systematic expertise
Monogeneans, especially family Diplectanidae.
Nematodes, only families Capillariidae and Trichosomoididae.

Key-words, techniques
Phylogeny, systematics, morphology, molecular methods, barcode, transmission electron microscopy, ultrastructure, immunocytochemistry, coral reefs, invasive species, citizen science.

Main results

  • Invasive land planarians. I discovered in 2013 the presence in France of several species of invasive land planarians, including Platydemus manokwari.
    Example of article

  • Parasite biodiversity of Coral Reefs. I have conducted (2003-2011) a survey of biodiversity of fish parasites of New Caledonia (South Pacific), on the basis of international collaborations. I am now back in the MNHN, Paris, and work on this material. Many new species have been described. One major result is that biodiversity of parasites is at least ten times the biodiversity of their host fishes. In other words, when there are n species of fishes, there are at least n x 10 species of parasites.
    Example of article

  • Molecular phylogeny of monogeneans. We published the first molecular phylogeny of the Monopisthocotylea et Polyopisthocotylea (1997-2000).
    Example of article :
  • Spermatozoa of Nematodes. Nematode spermatozoa are very speciel cells. We studied the proteins of the cytoskeleton, including actin and tubulin, in several species(1995-2000).
    Example of article
  • Spermatozoa of Platyhelminthes and phylogeny. The Platyhelminthes have few morphological characters but the ultrastructural study of their spermatozoa provides a number of characters. The first cladistic study of the monogeneans was based on these results (1991).
