It is well known among morphometricians that Kendall’s shape space is fundamental, but it is usually a rather abstract idea. This seminar will take the audience to some walks on the shape space to make it more intuitive. Considerations how the shape space is embedded in its coordinate system identify some constraints on shape data that have important implications for old and new debates in geometric morphometrics. The seminar will revisit the old controversy on Procrustes superimposition and whether the « Pinocchio » effect is a flaw in this method and it will touch on recent discussions on « spurious » results concerning shape integration and the null models that underlie them.
